WHAT IS JUVEDERM

As you age, you may begin to notice the appearance of more facial fine lines and wrinkles. Luckily, there are several options available to smooth your skin and help it regain its youthful appearance. For those reluctant to take the surgical route, there are quite a few injectable alternatives to consider.

One popular non-surgical option is Juvéderm®, a dermal filler which helps to restore volume to the skin and smooth away moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. This minimally invasive procedure will leave you with impressive, long-lasting results. To help determine if Juvéderm is the right choice for you, we have compiled some essential facts about the procedure.

HOW IT WORKS

Juvéderm is a gel comprised of hyaluronic acid, a sugar-based substance naturally found in the body. Its role is to maintain hydration and act as a cushioning agent for the skin. Once injected, this gel helps to plump up the areas of your face that have lost some fullness due to age, resulting in a more youthful look.

Common areas of focus tend to be the fine lines and wrinkles that often appear around the nose, mouth, and forehead. While Juvéderm is not permanent, its results tend to last longer than similar treatments, with some variations producing effects that can still be seen over a year after the initial treatment.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH JUVÉDERM

Since there is no surgery involved, recovery time for those who receive Juvéderm injections is fairly minimal. There is generally no need for additional anesthesia, although some patients may elect to use a topical anesthetic on the area to be treated before receiving the injection. A fine needle will be used to administer the gel underneath your skin. Results should be visible immediately following the appointment.

Following the procedure, it is advisable to avoid touching the treated part of your face for a couple of days. Patients should also take care to stay out of extreme hot or cold temperatures for about two weeks. Minor swelling or bruising may occur at the injection site, but should fade quickly.

If a simple method to look younger without undergoing surgery is what you seek, Juvéderm may be just the solution. No matter the location of your facial fine lines and wrinkles, one of the many variations of Juvéderm will likely be able to resolve the issue so it is far less noticeable with minimal side effects and recovery time.
